![]() ![]() I get what they are trying to do, but its tacky, anti-consumer, and makes them seem like greed is their only motivation. Havent seen any significant update since, and probably wont see new plugins added ever again (not too mention we basically beta tested the update as it had SHITLOADS of bugs). Additionally When powering on, i occasionally get a popup that says "you have plugins to install" which takes me to the "activate a demo of x plugin" that costs money. ![]() Then they cost like $100 to $200 each to buy (Including basic shit like piano's and violins). Now they make "optional" plugins that you can ONLY use with the MPC hardware or software. ![]() Worse then that they basically adding a cash shop to the thing. They really lost my respect recently by taking away our ability to export MIDI (to make it harder to use anything other then AKAI stuff with it). ![]() If your trying to get away from the piano roll DAW style workflow, steer clear of the newer MPC's. As i said though its like a DAW in a box, but it lacks some functions (even ones that seem stupid to not include) that a DAW on your computer would have and do better. I think the rival to the Octatracks crossfader is the MPC Live, live II, X, and One have a touchscreens, which allows them to have a Kaoss pad like XY effect controller (its pretty badass tbh). "Unlimited" tracks, built in plugins (synths and effects), piano roll, can connect an audio interface to give it more inputs, etc. Ive yet to use an Octratrack (plan to pick one up closer to the end of the year, hoping they drop an MKIII by then but not holding my breath), but my MPC Live 2 is basically a DAW in a box. If it clicks with you, you find a sweet spot for it in your workflow and are rusty or ignorant about a lot of the rest of it. Most people I know, myself included, use it in a fairly limited way relative to everything it can do. It is a complicated machine that is difficult to master. TLDR there are some default track settings and general gain staging to be aware of.īut I think this highlights the myriad responses to the OT. I recommend reading the various threads on OT sound quality on that site. Stimming was kind of roasted for his OT review on elektronauts: Was watching the stimming video today where he listed a few "major" problems with it such as audio recorded loses quality and so on and no one else touched on the subject. Thank you everyone in advance! I have so many questions about Octatrack as it seems the one device with so much mystery behind it and will most likely be asking more questions in the near future as i get close to my purchasing date. What are some pros and cons that should be aware of? Which brings me to the question to the artists who have the machine and use it. This made me think that most YouTube videos don't discuss the buyer beware aspects except that it is really deep and complex. I've watched all the ez bot, surco videos and was watching the stimming video today where he listed a few "major" problems with it such as audio recorded loses quality and so on and no one else touched on the subject. I practically ignored all my other gear and even recording any music because how fun it is and how much there is to learn. I got the Syntakt last year and as my first elektron box it was a dream come true. Recently I feel like the synth gods are whispering in my ears that it is time for me to get an Octatrack mk2 as it is the next thing I "need" in my live rig. ![]()
